Everyday painting no. 3. After 20+ years in Madrid, I occasionally think about the fate vs. free will argument. In 1998 it felt like I chose Madrid over Paris and Barcelona to do a CELTA teacher-training course. I was offered all three and went for Madrid. But far down the line, it sometimes seems like some divine or universal hand picked me up from the UK and moved me to Madrid with no real agency on my part at all, like a chess piece being moved across the board. Who knows.
